3/28 Kate Hinote Trio w/ Emily Rose

$15.00

The Kate Hinote Trio and Emily Rose will be joining forces for their collective North Star Lounge debut. Join us for a special 90 minute collaborative performance showcasing songs they have released independently or otherwise performed together over the last few years as their friendship and musical endeavors have intertwined and flourished.

The Kate Hinote Trio is a Detroit-based contemporary folk ensemble rooted in storytelling, rich melodies, and an unmistakable chemistry between its members. Led by vocalist and songwriter Kate Hinote, the trio features guitarist David Johnson (her longtime bandmate from The Blueflowers) and violinist Matthew Parmenter (of art-rock band Discipline). Together, they create an acoustic sound that is both finely crafted and refreshingly human, blurring the lines between folk, chamber pop, and indie songcraft. Their second album, Stowaways (released June 2025), showcases the trio’s evolution with ten original songs that lean into narrative-driven songwriting. The heart of their music lies in the dynamic between Hinote’s clear, expressive vocals and Parmenter’s violin, which often takes on the role of a second voice — playful, tender, or teasing — adding emotional depth and dialogue to every song. Johnson’s warm and intuitive guitar work anchors the arrangements, giving each story the space it needs to unfold. Over the past five years, the trio has brought their music to stages across Michigan, Ohio, New York, West Virginia, and Kentucky, including a featured appearance on NPR/PRX’s Red Barn Radio from WEKU in Lexington, KY.

Emily Rose is a singer/songwriter, storyteller, and published poet from Detroit, Michigan. Since the genesis of her career, she has toured nationally, performed the Midwest folk festival circuits, and released four full length albums, two singles and one book. Her sensitivity to the written word and intricate guitar work earned her placement in Playstation Four's Detroit: Become Human. Rose’s latest release, The Parlor Tapes, is a quiet, raw album recorded to four-track in a century old historic Detroit house. She curates and performs a monthly show called Ghost Night which honors departed songwriters.
